Dear
qvFamilia
Welcome to the Philosophy Issue! This issue
comes at a time when we are finding both the QV community and
the Latino community, in their own ways, making big leaps forward
in U.S. culture. Just three years ago, who would have thought
that a TV sitcom featuring openly QV characters like "Will
and Grace" would have been such a big hit. And in the Latino
community, who would have thought that Carlos Santana would have
been the biggest winner at the Grammy Awards-not walking away
with one Grammy, but with eight Grammys! So for those of us who
can identify with both the QV and Latino cultures, this is truly
an exciting time, and it's no wonder why we can say it's great
to be a Latino!
One thing that we should keep in mind as
we continue to progress in our society, is the idea of taking
the time to look inside ourselves-both as individuals and as
a community. It's important for us to ask questions about our
lives and our heritage, because when we ask questions and seek
answers, we come upon a better understanding of ourselves and
the world around us.
In this issue, we ask some deep questions
about ourselves. For example, one question we ask is, "Are
You a Proud Latino?" This question is not as easily answered
as you might think because Latinos are so diverse in so many
ways. We come in all shades of skin color and with all kinds
of customs. So what does it mean to be a true Latino? Do we encompass
Spaniards? Italians? Do we also encompass Filipinos since many
of them have blood roots from Spain? What about people whose
roots remain purely indigenous to Mexico and South America, without
having ever been mixed with any Spaniard or European blood-are
they Latino? These questions could go on and on in many directions
and it can get pretty complicated.
Another question we ask in this issue is
the philosophical following: "Why do QV people really exist
on Earth?" If you think about this one, it can be pretty
complex, but one that deserves our attention. If anything, all
we know for sure is that we as QV men have been blessed with
the unique gift of being able to share physical and emotional
ties with another human being-and that is special.
There are, literally, millions of philosophical
questions to be answered in life, but if we start with these
ones, we are on our way to understanding who we are as people.
What is truly important is the journey
of seeking the truths. Philosophy helps to expand our minds by
teaching us to explore and understand ourselves, our environment,
and the people who surround us. It helps us to discover our own
identities as part of our community and as individuals. Without
this knowledge and self-awareness, we cannot progress in life.
From all of us at qvMagazine, enjoy the
Philosophy Issue.
Sincerely, The qvStaff
