qv10 Editorial

Dear qvReaders

Welcome to qv10, the Diversity Issue! When we think of diversity, we think of the many uniquenesses within the Latino community. We're moreno, huero, or medium-skinned. We have short hair, long hair, or-in some cases-no hair at all. We're clean-cut, with moustaches, with goatees, or with beards. We're thin, muscular, chubby, tall, or short. We're doctors, lawyers, educators, students, waiters, actors, dancers, musicians, or even fast-food workers. We're QV, straight, or bisexual. We're deaf, blind, or physically challenged, or not. We are male, female, transgendered, or in some cases, intersexed. All in all, it's diversity that makes our Latino community so beautiful.

In celebration of our diversity, we've included a beautiful painting (Available only in the print version. Click here to subscribe!) This painting captures the rich diversity of our Latino community and even includes the faces of some of qvMagazine's past models! Many thanks go to Alex Tapia, the talented young artist who hand drew this painting specifically for this issue. Did we mention Alex is also our qvCover model for this issue?

Next, we wanted to do something different-something that you rarely see in QV magazines, or in any magazine in general. What we decided to do is talk to four straight Latino guys. We asked them to be open and tell us how they see Latinos. It's all from a straight man's perspective!

Then, we interviewed two guys-a 16-year-old and a 39-year-old. We asked one what it's like to be a teenager and QV? And we asked the other one what's it like to be QV and approaching 40? It's amazing to see how both-being diverse in ages-see the same QV community.

Also, in this issue, you'll find a special interview with a deaf, bisexual Latino. He'll share with us what it's like being bisexual in the deaf community. We'll also give you a few pointers on some words that every Latino should know how to say in sign language!

Next, be sure to read our exclusive qvFocus interview with film director Roberto Ramirez. Roberto is a Latino who's directing the prequel to the movie, "The Prince of Egypt." Find out the details of his current project, and what he has to say about being QV in the workplace!

Finally, qvMagazine is proud to present the 2nd Annual Latino Vibe Party '99! This spectacular event will take place on a yacht on Saturday, August 21, 1999. It's an event you won't want to miss so send in your reservation form early. For more information, please click here.

So, with all this excitement in mind, have a wonderful summer and enjoy qv10, the Diversity Issue!

Sincerely,
The qvStaff
